PRELUDE

*CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 139:1-6

Leader: You have searched me, Lord,

People: and you know me.

Leader: You know when I sit and when I rise;

People: you perceive my thoughts from afar.

Leader: You discern my going out and my lying down;

People: you are familiar with all my ways.

Leader: Before a word is on my tongue

People: you, Lord, know it completely.

Leader: You hem me in behind and before,

People: and you lay your hand upon me.

Leader: Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

People: too lofty for me to attain.

*PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN 611 “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Sovereign God, we confess that we have not turned away from sin. We follow the advice of the wicked and scoff at those who do good. We make plans we cannot complete and promises we will not fulfill. Forgive us, God of grace. Refresh and renew our hearts, so that we may seek your will and do all the good we can; through Jesus Christ our Lord…

Silent Prayers of confession

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

As a potter holds a piece of clay, God holds and shapes our lives. As you repent of your sin and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation, know that you are forgiven and be at peace.

Thanks be to God!

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed Page 35

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
