*CALL TO WORSHIP

Rejoice in the Lord always!

All thanks and praise to God!

Do not worry about anything.

We trust in God who provides for us.

Let the peace of God settle among you.

We will share God’s peace with all.

*PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN 625              How Great Thou Art

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God, we have not built a golden calf, but we have worshipped idols.  We have put our trust in what we build with our own hands.  We find security in what we can hoard instead of trusting in your provision.  We listen to lies that spread hatred and division instead of the radical truth of your word.  Forgive us.  Melt down our idols until we see only you and fix our sight on your way alone…

Silent Prayers of Confession

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

God shows us a different way – a way of truth, honor, justice, and excellence.  This path is open to all of us if we reach out and accept God’s forgiveness.

Thanks be to God!  We will live as God’s people,

forgiven and freed.

*STATEMENT OF FAITH – adapted from the Westminster Shorter Catechism

Q: What is God?

A: God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable in being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice,  goodness, and truth.

Q: Are there more Gods than one?

A: There is but one only, the living and true God.

Q: What is sin?

A: Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God.

Q: Is any person able perfectly to keep the commandments of God?

A: No person is able, in this life, perfectly to keep the commandments of God, but daily breaks them, in thought, word, and deed.  However, God justifies us as an act of God’s free grace, in which God pardons our sins and accepts us as righteous in God’s sight.
