WELCOME AND CONCERNS OF THE CONGREGATION

PRELUDE     “Partita on ‘God the Omnipotent’”   R. Rowland-Raybold

*CALL TO WORSHIP based on Psalm 9

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,

a haven in time of trouble.

Those who know your name, O God, put their trust in you.

Have pity on us, O Lord,

for you alone have power to lift us from the gate of death.

Sing praise to the Lord who is our help;

proclaim to all people the great things God has done!

*PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN 35   Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of David,

We hear booming voices deriding our faith.

We want to be brave for you, but we are not.

We want to trust in the gifts you have given us,

but we do not.

We back away, mumbling excuses.

Have mercy on us, O God.

Give us courage to step forward as your people,

trusting in your power, working through us,

and strengthen our voices to proclaim your praise…

Silent Prayers of Confession

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

The Apostle Paul wrote: “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved” (Romans 10: 9).  The good news therefore is this: “now is the acceptable time; today is the day of salvation!”  (2 Corinthians 6:2b)

Thanks be to God!

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
