Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

June 27, 2021

WELCOME AND CONCERNS OF THE CONGREGATION

PRELUDE “O Darkest Woe” A. W. Leupold

*CALL TO WORSHIP - from Psalm 130

Leader: Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord; Lord, hear our

voice.

People: If you kept account of all our sin, O Lord, who could

stand?

Leader: But there is forgiveness with you; therefore, you shall be

feared and worshiped.

People: I will wait for you, O Lord; my soul waits, for in your

word is hope.

Leader: Wait for the Lord, O people of God, for with the Lord

there is mercy.

People: The Lord is our salvation, for God has power to redeem

us from our sin.

*PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN #463 “How Firm a Foundation”

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Compassionate Judge, we thank you for your graciousness to us, dealing with us not according to our sin, but according to your boundless mercy. If you, Lord, should keep account of sin, who could stand? But with you is forgiveness. Yet we deny the mercy by which we live: We are slow to forgive, yet quick to rise up in judgment. Forgive our indifference and ingratitude in the face of your forbearance with us; enable us by your Spirit to love one another as we ought, trusting each other to your generous mercy, even as we cling to that mercy for our own hope, through Jesus Christ, our Lord...

Silent Prayers of confession

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

Hear the good news: there is forgiveness and steadfast love with God who saves us from all our sins. God has shown this love for us in that, while we still were sinners, Christ died for us.

Thanks be to God!

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

*“catholic” (little c) is translated as “universal” and is not a reference to the Roman Catholic Church.
