A SERVICE OF WORSHIP FOR THE LORD’S DAY

Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany

January 28, 2024

WELCOME AND CONCERNS OF THE CONGREGATION

PRELUDE

*CALL TO WORSHIP – from Psalm 111

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart. Praise the Lord!

Your work is full of honor and majesty,

and your righteousness endures forever.

The works of your hands are faithful and just;

all your precepts are trustworthy.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

all who practice it have good understanding.

*PRAYER OF THE DAY

*HYMN 634          To God Be the Glory

PRAYER OF CONFESSION – Psalm 51:1, 10-12

Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness. In your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Create in us a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Do not cast us from your presence, or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and sustain us with your bountiful Spirit...

Silent Prayers of Confession

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Romans 6:22-23

Now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

  I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
